Heian Go-dan

The Pinan (平安) or Heian kata are a series of five empty hand forms taught in many karate styles. The Pinan kata originated in Okinawa and were adapted by Anko Itosu from older kata such as Kusanku and Channan into forms suitable for teaching karate to young students.

Heian Godan is the last Kata in the Heian series and has 23 movements and the embusen is almost T-shaped.

A combination of quick and slow movements, timing skill and fluidity of motion are essential for this Kata. It is the first Shotokan kata containing a jump (tobi-komi), a very exciting technique for beginner and intermediate karateka. Mikazuki-geri is also first seen in H5. The mizu-nagare-kamae at the beginning of the Kata and the shuto-uchikomi/manji-uke combo at the end are extremely vital for proper Kata performance. Bunkai for H5 involve many throws, locks, and takedowns.

Yoi

Greet slowly in musubi-dachi position .

Announce the kata: "Heian Godan" .

Yoi : In position  hachiji-dachi , fists closed in front of the hips.

 1 - Hidari chudan uchi-ude-uke: Turn the head to the left and move the left foot to the left in the kokutsu-dachi rear position , while blocking the inner edge of the left forearm middle level ( uchi-ude- uke ), the right fist in hikeness.

 2 - Migi chudan gyaku-zuki: On the spot, still in kokutsu-dachi , strike a direct punch straight to the plexus ( gyaku-zuki ) on your left. The left fist comes back in hikeness, the hips are in front.

 3 - Hidari chudan kagi-zuki: Slowly bring back the left foot against the right foot inheisoku-dachi . Turn the head to the right and give a left hook strike to the right middle level ( kagi-zuki ), right fist brought back to hikité.

 4 - Migi chudan uchi-uke: Move the right foot to the right in the kokutsu-dachi rear position , while blocking the inner cutting edge of the right middle forearm ( uchi-ude-uke ), the left fist in hikité .

 5 - Hidari chudan gyaku-zuki: On the spot, still in kokutsu-dachi , strike a direct left punch to the plexus ( gyaku-zuki ) on your right. The right fist returns in hikeness, the hips are in front.

 6 - Hidari chudan kagi-zuki: Slowly bring the right foot against the left foot in heisoku-dachi . Turn the head forward and punch right hook to the left middle level ( kagi-zuki ), left fist brought back into hikeness.

 7 - Migi chudan-morote-uke: Move the right foot in the kata axis in the kokutsu-dachi back position , with a middle-level blocking (chudan morote-uke ) from left to right. The right arm performs the parry, the left fist, knuckles upwards reinforces the inside of the right elbow. The left arm is stuck to the trunk .

8 - Hidari gedan juji-uke: Advance the left foot in the axis of the kata in zenkutsu-dachi position, and park by folding arms down, fists ( gedan juji-uke ). The bust is in front, the position is low, the elbows are tight.

 9 - Hidari jodan shuto-juji-uke: On the spot, raise your hands always crossed and open them arriving at the top for a parade from bottom to top open hands ( jodan shuto-juji-uke ).

10 - Hidari chudan osae-uke: On the spot, turn both hands (palms face to face) to the right and bring them to the right hip. The right hand, fingers forward, is under the left, fingers outward right (chudan osae-uke ). The bust remains in front.
Then, while advancing the right foot, push the edge of the left hand forward, the right fist in hikité.

11 - Migi chudan oï-zuki: Advance the right foot in zenkutsu-dachia nd hit a direct left punch ( oï-zuki ) average level.

12 - Migi yoko-fumikomi / Migi gedan-barai: Shift the weight of the body backwards, and rotate on the left foot of 180 ° to the left with a strong rotation of the hips. Place the right foot in force (fumikomi) in thekiba-dachi position while simultaneously performing a low blocking of the right arm (gedan-barai).

13 - Hidari chudan haishu-uke / Migi chudan mikazuki-geri:

- Immediately chase a crescent kick (mikazuki-geri) from the flat of the right foot in the left hand, by swivelling 180 ° on the left foot to the left

14 - Migi chudan mae-empi-uchi: Continue the rotation by placing the right foot in thekiba-dachi position ands triking the right elbow in the open left hand (empi-uchi).

19 - Hidari gedan shuto-barai / Hidari nagashi-shuto-uke / Migi gedan shuto-nukite:
