3 Workouts that Work

Our generation is getting more creative in the way we do things today thanks to technology, however, not so true when it comes to fitness. I believe we are less active nowadays and tend to have that "want it now" approach. I'm sorry people but there is no fast tracking this.

Remember – exercising and maintaining a good diet only keeps you healthy and fit if you do it regularly and consistently!

So here are my 3 workout options that works for me when I need to get motivated and get back on on track.

1. Circuit Training

Circuit training is simply a combination of strength training and aerobic exercises which is fantastic for cardiovascular health and building up your muscle. This type of workout usually involves a range of stations utilising resistance equipment and space to do a series of exercises, this could be squats, skipping, push-ups and jumps. Circuit training also incorporates interval training, or alternating between low- and high-intensity exercise. The best thing about circuit training is that can be done on your own, as a group or in a class setting.

2. High Intensity Training (H.I.T)

Fantastic for those who want to push themselves. H.I.T. involves very short, intense training sessions of aerobic and muscular exercise. It’s beneficial for burning fat and strengthening cardiovascular health. A typical session would start out with a short warm-up and stretching. Then, you would rotate between a moderate aerobic exercise (e.g. jogging), an intense aerobic exercise (e.g. sprinting) and a movement that involves many muscle groups (e.g. lunging) for short bursts of time. Of course this cycle can be repeated with different types of movement.

3. Combat workouts

Muay Thai and Shōtōkan Karate moves are great for self-defence as well as general fitness. There are many different types of combat workouts and level of proficiency. The classes will include a variety of techniques and combinations. Classes offer a modified version of Muay Thai and Shōtōkan Karate without any physical contact. Muay Thai and Karate employs both cardio and resistance training, and you can burn plenty of calories. Long term training will guarantee your agility, endurance, self-confidence and co-ordination will also improve.
